The Five Numbers That Size a Dryer
Delivered SCFM comes first, and the compressor's data sheet beats the horsepower rule every time; where the sheet is gone, 4.3 to 4.6 SCFM per hp for a rotary screw and 3.5 to 4 for a piston machine gets close. Then line pressure, because a dryer rated at 100 psig carries 15 percent more at 150 psig and 20 percent less at 60. Then the inlet air temperature: 100°F is the rating point, 110°F costs 20 percent of capacity and 120°F costs 35. Then the hottest the room gets on a summer afternoon, because the condenser is rated at 100°F ambient and loses 12 percent at 110°F. And finally how the plant runs, because that decides cycling against non-cycling rather than the size.
Cycling or Non-Cycling
Tell us the hours the compressor is loaded. A plant loaded 60 percent of the time or more gets a non-cycling dryer, which is cheaper to buy and has the fewest parts. A plant that idles nights and weekends with the compressor still up gets a cycling dryer, which sizes the same but stops its refrigeration compressor when the load drops and cuts dryer power by half or more. Where the numbers are close we quote both and write the trade-off out.
Piston Compressors Without an Aftercooler
Say so. Air off a piston head runs 180 to 200°F, and a standard dryer loses more than half its capacity at that temperature. The high-inlet-temperature models are rated for it and the quote will name one, with the high-temperature prefilter that belongs in front of it.
Replacing an Existing Dryer
Photograph the nameplate and send the picture. The model number gives the flow rating, connections and voltage, and we confirm the current equivalent or the successor series where the original is retired, without a calculation. If the plate is gone, the connection size, the voltage on the motor plate and the compressor it serves are enough to place it. The cross-reference by flow page shows how the match is made.
Filters, Drains and Bypass
Every dryer quote can carry the 1 micron coalescing prefilter, the 0.01 micron oil-removal afterfilter and a zero-loss drain matched to its flow, plus a bypass valve on the small sizes so the dryer can come out for service without shutting the shop down. Ask for them on the same request; they are sized from the same numbers and priced together.
Quantity, Schedule and Destination
Quantity affects price and lead time separately, so send the real number. A need-by date lets us say which models ship from stock and which are built to order, and a ship-to city puts freight on the quote rather than on the invoice. Voltage matters too: 115 V single phase through 50 SCFM, 460 V three phase on the larger sizes, with 230 V and 575 V available on many models.

We Size and Select
The delivered flow is corrected for pressure, inlet temperature and ambient, and the first model at or above the corrected duty is chosen, cycling or non-cycling according to how the plant runs.
If the duty sits between two sizes, or between two series, you get both with the difference written out.
3.
You Get a Quote
A model number, a price, a lead time and the rating the selection is based on, so the numbers can be checked rather than taken on trust. Stock models are priced the same business day.
