Features

  • Finned centrifugal module sets the air spinning; water and heavy oil go to the wall and drop to the bowl
  • Internal shield keeps the collected liquid out of the airstream, so the bowl can run half full without carryover
  • Efficiency holds from low flow to full flow; an impaction or coalescing stage needs its design velocity to work
  • Pressure drop stays where it was on day one because there is no element to load up

Ratings

  • Max pressure: 232 psig; 22 psig minimum on the 0070 and larger sizes
  • Temperature: 35 to 176°F
  • Liquid removal: 99 percent of bulk water, tested to ISO 12500-4
  • Approvals: CRN through 1,500 SCFM
  • Warranty: 10 years on the housing

Centrifugal separation, not a filter

Spin the water out instead of catching it in media

The GF WS Series is a centrifugal water separator for the spot between the aftercooler and the dryer. Air enters a finned module that spins it, the water is thrown to the wall and runs down behind a shield that keeps it from being picked up again, and a float drain empties the bowl. There is no element, so there is nothing to saturate, blind or change, and the separation does not depend on hitting one design velocity: it holds across the swing of a variable-speed compressor. Thirteen threaded aluminum housings cover 6 to 1,500 SCFM on 1/8 in through 3 in NPT, and a 4 in flanged unit takes the range to 3,000 SCFM.

Housing and drain sized for real condensate loads. Die-cast aluminum with an electrocoat inside and out plus a powder-coat exterior against acidic condensate; Automatic float drain fitted on every threaded size, with a replacement drain kit for each housing group; A 100 SCFM system at 100 psig on a humid day condenses on the order of 10 gallons a day in the aftercooler; this is where it comes out; The 3,000 SCFM flanged unit carries the same 22 to 232 psig rating for central plants.

Ahead of the dryer, behind the aftercooler. A 125 SCFM dryer takes GF 0125 WS on 3/4 in NPT; a 700 SCFM dryer takes GF 0700 WS on 2 in; Takes the slug of water off the aftercooler so the dryer's own separator and the 1 micron prefilter handle mist, not puddles; Essential where the aftercooler has no separator of its own, or the receiver sits far enough away to cool the air again.

Flows are at 100 psig inlet; there is no element to replace, only the float drain kit for each housing group. Full part-number pages for this series are on our nano dryers site: www.nanodryers.com/Centrifugal-Water-Separators.html. Each part number above links straight to its page there.

GF WS Series Separators Applications

Dimensions and mounting

Ports in line through the head, bowl below, drain at the bottom.

Install the separator upright in a straight run with the ports in line and the bowl down; the spin depends on the inlet feeding the module the right way round, so follow the flow arrow. Place it as close to the aftercooler outlet as possible, before the receiver if the receiver is in the dryer room, or right after it if the receiver is outdoors and the air cools again on the way in. Leave clearance under the bowl to unscrew it for cleaning, though with no element there is no routine reason to.

The float drain discharges from the bottom of the bowl and this drain carries the largest liquid load in the system; pipe it to a condensate line or an oil-water separator with a tube that cannot kink, and never leave it dripping behind the compressor. The 3,000 SCFM flanged unit stands in the line on its own supports with 4 in ANSI flanges.

The drawing above is a threaded housing; confirm the height, port size and drain kit for your size, and the flange details of the 3,000 SCFM unit, with the quote.
