Features

  • Chilled glycol in a thermal mass carries the cooling load between compressor runs, so the compressor spends much of a light shift switched off
  • A permanent-magnet synchronous pump keeps the glycol circulating whether the compressor is running or not
  • Reduced refrigerant charge and a low pressure drop exchanger keep both the running cost and the pressure penalty down
  • Zero air loss condensate drain fitted as standard

Ratings

  • Inlet pressure: 29 to 210 psig
  • Max inlet temperature: 140°F
  • Ambient range: 41 to 115°F
  • Pressure dew point: 41°F, ISO 8573-1 class 5
  • Cooling: Air-cooled

A glycol loop that stores the cold

The refrigeration compressor rests while the thermal mass works

The TMC Series is the small and mid-size cycling dryer: twelve sizes from 30 to 635 SCFM that store cold in a glycol loop circulated by a permanent-magnet pump, so the refrigeration compressor charges the loop, shuts down and stays off until the glycol warms. At part load the dryer draws up to 80 percent less power than a non-cycling unit of the same size, which is the kind of saving that qualifies for utility rebates. The exchanger is low pressure drop with a reduced refrigerant charge, the drain is zero-loss, and the controller shows the dew point. It takes 140°F inlet air, so a warm aftercooler is not a problem.

Matched filters and a controller that shows the dew point. Integrated controller with dew point display, so the operator sees the outlet condition at a glance; A 1 micron prefilter and a 0.01 micron afterfilter from the GFN Series are listed for every size, from GFN 0050 for the TMC 0030 to GFN 0450 for the TMC 0635; Female NPT connections from 1/2 in to 2-1/2 in, so the dryer pipes straight in with standard fittings; Single-phase 115 V through 170 SCFM and 230 V at 200 and 265 SCFM; 460 V three phase from 320 SCFM.

The part-load case in numbers. A 50 hp rotary screw delivers about 225 SCFM and lands on the TMC 0265; at 1.86 kW that dryer costs about 16,000 kWh a year running non-stop; Averaging 60 percent load, the thermal mass lets the compressor rest for a large share of every hour and the annual figure falls toward half of that; The saving grows with the size: the TMC 0635 at 4.68 kW has three times as much to give back.

Flows are rated at 100 psig with 100°F inlet air and a 100°F room, cabinet figures are height by width by depth, and every size has a matched 1 micron prefilter and 0.01 micron afterfilter in the GFN Series.

TMC Series Applications

TMC Series dimensional outline drawing

Three cabinets, twelve sizes

A tall slim cabinet to 105 SCFM, a wider one to 265, and a floor unit to 635.

The TMC 0030 through TMC 0105 share a 39.1 x 12.4 x 29.4 in cabinet at 121 to 165 lb, narrow enough to stand beside a 10 hp compressor, with 1/2 in FNPT ports on the 30 and 55 SCFM units and 1-1/4 in on the 75 and 105. The 130 to 265 SCFM units move to a 49.5 x 34 x 20 in cabinet at 396 to 418 lb on 1-1/2 in FNPT. The 320 to 635 SCFM units are 54.8 x 43 x 31.5 in at 715 to 737 lb, with 2 in FNPT on the 320 and 400 and 2-1/2 in on the 510 and 635.

All twelve are air-cooled: leave the condenser face open and the warm discharge clear of the compressor intake, and keep the room between 41 and 115°F. Fit the prefilter at the inlet and the afterfilter at the outlet with a bypass around all three so the dryer can be isolated. The zero-loss drain needs a run to a condensate treatment unit. Small units plug into a 115 V outlet; the 200 and 265 SCFM sizes want a 230 V circuit and the 320 SCFM and up a 460 V three-phase feed.
