Features

  • The reservoir freezes while the compressor runs and melts to cool the air while it rests, so the dew point never drifts between cycles
  • Power draw follows the air load almost linearly instead of sitting at full draw whatever the flow
  • Integral demister separates the condensate inside the same stainless steel block
  • Rated to ISO 7183 at 100 psig, 100°F inlet and 100°F ambient, the same basis as the sizing tables

Ratings

  • Max inlet temperature: 120°F
  • Pressure dew point: 38°F, ISO 8573-1 class 4-5
  • Pressure drop: 1.8 to 5.8 psid at rated flow
  • Refrigerant: R513A to 550 SCFM, R454C from 800 SCFM
  • Cooling: Air-cooled (-A); water-cooled (-W) from 800 SCFM

Stored cold that carries the light-load hours

Phase-change material inside a three-in-one brazed-plate exchanger

The FLXA Series is the current cycling dryer for plant air from 75 to 2,000 SCFM. A reservoir of phase-change material inside the stainless steel brazed-plate three-in-one exchanger stores cold, so the refrigeration compressor runs to charge it and then stops; at half load the dryer draws roughly half the power of a non-cycling machine of the same size. Twelve air-cooled sizes run on low-GWP R513A through 550 SCFM and R454C from 800 SCFM, with water-cooled builds of the five largest. A controller with live dew point display and diagnostics, an integral demister and a filter package supplied with the dryer complete the unit. It replaces the FLEX Series size for size.

Controller, refrigerants and cooling options. Controller shows the live pressure dew point and runs diagnostics with an alarm history; Low-GWP R513A through 550 SCFM and R454C from 800 SCFM up; Air-cooled -A builds throughout; water-cooled -W builds on the 800 to 2,000 SCFM sizes for hot compressor rooms; Prefilter and afterfilter supplied with the dryer so the installation is complete on day one.

Where the cycling saving comes from. At 10.1 kW, a 2,000 SCFM dryer that averages 60 percent load banks roughly 4 kW around the clock, about 35,000 kWh a year; A plant on one full shift and a light second shift sees the biggest gain; a base-loaded plant sees little, and the DXR Series is the cheaper buy there; Water-cooled units draw 3.5 to 9.3 kW against 4.9 to 10.1 kW for the air-cooled sizes, a further saving where cooling water is already on site.

FLXA Series Applications

Cabinets, flanges and cooling connections

From a 148 lb cabinet on 1 in NPT to a 2,690 lb floor unit on 6 in flanges.

The FLXA1.1-A at 75 SCFM is 32.3 x 18.5 x 27.9 in and 148 lb with 1 in NPT connections; the 100 SCFM unit is 35.0 x 18.5 x 34.6 in at 168 lb. From 150 to 550 SCFM the connections are 2 in NPT and the cabinets run from 36.6 x 21.7 x 40.6 in at 240 lb to 47.2 x 23.6 x 54.3 in at 474 lb. The 800 and 1,000 SCFM air-cooled units are 63.5 in tall on 3 in flanges at 1,012 and 1,135 lb, the 1,250 uses a 4 in flange at 1,290 lb, and the 1,500 and 2,000 SCFM units are 90.8 x 33.9 x 87.9 in at 2,469 and 2,535 lb on 6 in flanges.

The water-cooled -W builds are shorter, 58.3 in through 1,250 SCFM and 72.5 in on the two largest, and need a cooling water supply and return at the cabinet along with a drain for the condenser. Air-cooled units need free air at the condenser and a route for the warm discharge out of the room. Every size wants a bypass so the dryer can be isolated for service, and the zero-loss drain should be piped to a condensate treatment unit.

The outline above shows one cabinet; a dimensional drawing for the specific model, with flange heights and water connections where fitted, comes with the quote.
