Specifications

Configuration & Size

Sizes:
13 models, 300 to 3,200 SCFM
Connections:
1-1/2 in NPT to 4 in flange
Heater:
4.5 to 40 kW
Average power:
2.0 to 21.4 kW at full load

Features

  • Heated regeneration boosted with ambient air, using up to 15 percent less purge than a heatless dryer
  • Energy management controller senses temperature and humidity and trims regeneration to the conditions
  • Rated for 100 percent duty cycle
  • Reaches -40°F automatically in cold ambient, or year-round with an optional purge upgrade

Ratings

  • Working pressure: 60 to 150 psig
  • Inlet temperature: 40 to 120°F
  • Ambient: 40 to 120°F
  • Pressure drop: 5 psi
  • Dew point: -4°F class 3 standard; -40°F class 2 with option or low ambient

Heat does part of the purge's work

A twin tower for plants that can live with -4°F most of the year

Water leaves desiccant far more readily when the bed is warm. The HPD Series uses that: an electric heater lifts the temperature of the regeneration stream, ambient air is brought in to amplify it, and the dryer spends less of its own dried compressed air than a heatless unit doing the same job, by up to 15 percent on the published figure. An energy management controller reads temperature and humidity and adjusts each regeneration to the conditions instead of running every cycle for the worst case.

The standard outlet is class 3, a -4°F pressure dew point. When the ambient is cold the dryer reaches class 2, -40°F, on its own, and an optional purge upgrade holds class 2 year-round. That suits a large plant whose real requirement is no freezing in an outdoor header in winter: the dew point is lowest exactly when the pipe is coldest, and the dryer is not paying for -40°F in August.

Thirteen models run from 300 to 3,200 SCFM with heaters from 4.5 to 40 kW. Because the heater runs only through part of each regeneration, the full-load average is close to half the heater rating: 2.0 kW on the HPD300, 8.7 kW on the HPD1300 and 21.4 kW on the HPD3200.

HPD Series Applications

HPD Series dimensional outline drawing

Tall towers on a modest footprint

The HPD300 stands 98 in tall on a 48 x 43 in footprint at 1,400 lb with 1-1/2 in NPT ports. The 500 and 600 SCFM units move to 2 in NPT, 750 through 1,800 SCFM use 3 in flanges, and the 2,200 to 3,200 SCFM sizes 4 in flanges; the HPD3200 is 121 in tall, 97 in wide and weighs 9,000 lb. Every model lists its own coalescing prefilter and afterfilter.

The heater needs a feed sized for its full kW rating even though the average draw is lower, so check the electrical before the dryer arrives. Leave clearance around the heater housing and the controller, keep the room between 40 and 120°F, and pipe the exhaust away from any compressor intake so the water it carries is not drawn straight back in. In a cold climate site the dryer indoors; its 40°F ambient floor applies to the dryer, not to the pipe it protects.

Common FAQs

The HPD1050, rated 1,050 SCFM at 100 psig and 100°F inlet, provided the line holds 100 psig and the inlet stays near 100°F. It is a 3 in flanged frame, 113 in tall at 2,900 lb, with a 14 kW heater and a 7.0 kW full-load average. A room that runs hot in summer, or a header held below 100 psig, uses up that small margin quickly, and then the HPD1300 is the safer pick: 17 kW heater, 8.7 kW average and 118 in tall. Either way, quote it with the prefilter and afterfilter listed for that model.

Usually not: the HPD delivers minus 4°F as standard and reaches minus 40°F by itself only when the ambient is cold. Operators who watched minus 40°F on the monitor all winter often report a failure when the reading moves toward minus 4°F in April. Compare the reading with the class the dryer was bought for. If the plant needs class 2 all year, the purge-boost option with the energy management controller is what holds it. A reading above minus 4°F is a real fault, and the heater and valves are the place to start.
